DIY - How To Add Lace To Denim Shorts

Hey guys,

Inspired by these....

I found out my old pair of Three quarter cropped trousers/pants and set out to turn them into shorts with lace detail.

What you will need
An old pair of jeans/shorts
Lace
A sewing machine or just a needle and thread will do
Pins
Scissors
Pencil

(Optional)for pockets
Fabric glue
Brush
Card

The Process

First I cut the length

then i folded them with seam facing up

i then used a pencil to mark out an upside down v shape and cut the shape from each side of the shorts allowing about an inch either side of the seam at the hem.

Then using the cut out fabric from the shorts as a guide i cut out a piece of lace from an old net.

I then placed the lace on the inside of the cut out v.

I had the option to have the point in the middle or to one side i chose one side.
I pinned the fabric in place to secure.

and then stitched the lace on the inside of jeans using blue cotton.

Change Up - From Bandeau Top To Cute Nautical Summer Dress

Hey guys,

Today as I was looking through my bag unwanted things I found this

A long striped bandeau top that to be quite honest doesn't do much for me and pulling a top up every minute isn't ideal for me. So because I like the top I decided to reuse it by transforming it to a dress.

Something similar to this nautical dress

Here it is....,

All I did was place it on top of a stretchy white vest ,how easy?
You can stitch it together if you want , I didn't so I can still use the vest separately.

Here I have three looks, one with a white cardigan and white pumps another with a striped navy and white cardigan with white pumps and third the white cardigan from the first picture tied up.

And I've got a cute summer look without spending a penny.

How To Do Preppy Style

Hey guys,

This is my take on "The how to guide to preppy fashion", inspired by the 1950s and film and tv from Blair in gossip girl to style icon Audrey Hepburn. I assure you that petite girls can pull off this look just as much as catwalk models.

Get Familiar with The Basics

Blazers
Fitted Three quarter or boyfriend blazers are great.

Cardigans
Draped around the shoulders for that authentic 1950s prep is great for warm summer days but cardigans that button to the top are ideal whatever the season.

Sports
Sporting events aren't always the place for fashion inspiration but classic polo shirts we're everywhere at some point and though some of us still think of them as work shirts, right? But that being said a fitted pastel coloured or white Polo shirt can be the perfect choice of sport prep style. But my personal favourite is Horse riding, it has always been a classy affair but taking inspiration from dressage stars can give you the perfect preppy style for fall.

I also like those quilted jackets with leather look trim and elbows.

Blouses with Peter pan collars

Skirts
Pleats pleats and more pleats.
Brouges

Knee high socks and tights.

Accessories
Headbands, pearl necklaces and earrings and natural make up except for when red lipstick is needed.

Hair
Ponytails and soft curls are must do's.

The ultimate preppy style icon

DIY American Flag Denim Jean Shorts

Hey guys,

I've been doing some sorting out and getting rid of unwanted clothes and came across some old pair of denim shorts that I've never worn. I bought them a while back in the sale for £1 from Primark but they weren't my kind of style, so I looked for inspiration on how to change them. I came across Denim with lace, floral inserts and tie dye effects and then came across these.

American flag shorts.

So this was it, exactly what I was looking for.
So with my shorts and vision i started a project that would take me about 2 hours, 5 if you include the wash and dry.

What I used
Household bleach
Sponge i used two, one for the star and one to do the stripes.FYI rubber stamp may be better as the sponge can make the bleach spread if you press too hard.
Scissors
Stanley knife
Cardboard
Tape
Sandpaper

Step 1. Draw a star on a sponge and carve out surrounding sponge till you have the shape of star.

This is mine with a bit of bleach on, a stamp may have been better but i used what i had which was cheap sponge scourers from Tesco for 14p.

Step 2.
Mask out lines

Make your lines with tape, i used white electricians tape but any tape will do as long as its not too thin or too thick. Place cardboard inbetween shorts so the bleach doesn't spread through.

Step 3.
Poor about 5-10 ml of bleach in a small wide container so you can easily apply bleach to sponge. Then start dabbing it on the lines of fabric you have with the tape either side making sure not to go under the tape. Then using the Star Sponge do the opposite side making sure to press gently, it should be invisible as if not it will spread as you have to much bleach on the sponge. Tip: Practice on old fabric till you get the hang of it.

It should look like this, the longer you leave it the brighter the stars and stripes will be, you can always add another coat of bleach to the stripes if you want them lighter, i did.
Step 4.

Once Dry i removed the tape and cut off the hem of my shorts then put them in the washer/dryer.

This is how they turned out, you can leave it at this stage but i wanted mine to look a bit more rough so i added a few rips.
Step 5.(optional)
I took my Stanley knife and using thick card behind, as to not go all the way through to the other side i made small horizontal incisions.
I then pulled the fabric in between to expose the vertical white lines underneath, removing the blue(messy).

They ended up looking like this. I did the effect to both the back pockets and the front pockets and a few random places.

This is the finished look,

A fun cheap way to repurpose your clothes using ordinary household products, what could be better?
